Diversity was formed in 1992 by lesbians and gay men who wanted to sing some of the most beautiful classical music written for choirs with the odd fun song thrown in for good measure. Many gay choirs at the time shied away from performing sacred or religious music on the grounds that the church was not inclusive to gay and lesbians. Notwithstanding this the founding members felt that such a large part of a choirs’ repertoire would be missing if this stance was taken and so decided to form a chamber choir that would sing the music they loved.
